Opis stanowiska

The Global Environment & Circular Economy Director ensures that the overall environmental management program at Barry Callebaut is designed, implemented and monitored to guarantee compliance and meet environmental performance objectives, promoting circular economy activities reducing overall BC environmental impact.

The role covers the operational environmental responsibilities in the factories, warehouses and offices for the scope under its responsibility.

All mobilizing and supporting the company and the network of site/department managers liaising with the SH and Energy Management communities to create a competent, enthusiastic and effective team conscious of environmental care.

This role has a company wide scope,  fundamentally impacting the Waste/Plastic/Environmental Regulations/Circular Economy.

You are in charge of  mobilization and coordination of 60-70 Factory SHE site leaders from factories, Warehouses and main offices on the topic.

You liaise with the SH and Energy Global/Cluster group leaders

You drive the reduction of  Waste to landfill to less than 5% of total waste by 2030 and to zero by 2050 (tbc Feb 2024).

You support to CAPEX proposals for environment (except Energy/Water which are in charge of Energy group) (1 mio/year)

You act as the expert and single point of contact for the Sustainability organization, R&D Packaging, QA  and ERM in technical areas linked to Waste and Circular Economy.

Key Responsibilities include

Reducing environmental impact responding to Customers, Governments and society demands:

  • To reduce our impact on the environment (including coordination with Energy & GHG group according to company commitments).
  • Achieve environmental program goals in Compliance, Waste, Plastic reduction and Circular Economy
  • Ensure accuracy of customers’ sustainability reporting on Waste generation and disposal as well as Circular Economy across the supply chain.

Designing of BC Environmental Management System

  • Design the BC Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001, ensuring integration with other areas (QA, SH, Energy)
  • Coordination of key programs, setting objectives and targets in conjunction with senior management
  • Coordinate Environmental strategy in agreement with Energy & GHG team and Global guidelines.
  • Set and implement Strategy for Circular economy in agreement with Business overall environmental strategy.
  • Facilitate the execution of the 3-5 year plans according to Global Sustainability Framework;

Leading the implementation of the BC Environmental Management System (EMS) at Company level

  • Ensure progressive implementation of EMS setting the adequate plan in cooperation with the site leaders and SH/SHE organization,
  • Ensure regular environmental risk assessment is performed focusing on setting improvement actions
  • Develop and emphasize behaviors and ways of working based on Continuous Improvement and  Go4Zero framework focusing on the 0 Impact aspects.
  • Set the appropriate ways of working leading teamwork, people’s participation and increased competencies
  • Coordinate and facilitate the regular environmental  forums with the Cluster network and SH/SHE - Energy teams;
  • Develop training (with L&D support) to help create a Sustainability shared mindset within management and operating roles.
  • Give guidelines to the local HSE team and plant management to comply with legal and internal requirements

Monitoring and Assessing performance and progress

  • Provide Progress/KPI reporting to understand and improve environmental performance.
  • Assess Performance and ways of working to ensure all applicable legal requirements, internal standards and goals  are met
  • Set the internal audit program to ensure environmental performance.
  • Support the sites on their external audits (“E” part of SMETA Audits, ISO  and other external ones that cover “E” topics)
  • Enforce the adoption of external certifications (ISO 14001) in a significant number of our sites to have a good reference of best in class practices, its evolution and way of assessing them.

Identifying opportunities and innovations for Circular Economy

  • Set the strategy and promote the research and implementation of activities that contribute to increasing BC circular economy in order to reduce environmental impact and provide the business with a commercial advantage. It covers basically: Increase waste reuse and recycling, promote efficient use of materials, as well as the use of recycled materials, in our processes
  • Identify and develop new activities to increase Circular Economy together with the local teams supported by engineering, R&D packaging and process development team(s).

Leading the Environment and Circular Economy group

Lead the group of Environmental experts focusing on Methodology, Coaching, Training and Assessment of our company.

Wymagania

  • Master Degree in Engineering (Industrial areas) and Environmental Management
  • Desirable , additional qualifications in Environment a must:
    • Certified ISO 14001_2015 - Environmental Management System Requirements, Interpretation and Implementation;
    • Certified ISO 19011_2018 - Interpretation and Implementation of Normative Guidelines;
    • Certified ISO 50001_2018 - Elements of Energy Management System (EnMS);.
  • Project Management experience on a multi-country scale
  • Fluent in English and proficient in at least 1-2 additional languages
  • At least 8  years’ experience in a leading role in the manufacturing/ FMCG sector or related industries, with at least 5 years in an Environmental and/or Energy or Engineering Management/Maintenance cross-country leadership role.
  •  Relevant experience  in the area of waste reductions/management is a huge differentiating factor;

  •  Ability to think strategically  Ability to interact across all levels in the organization and build strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Strong working knowledge of industry regulations and legal guidelines

  • Knowledge of ISO Standards structures. ISO 14001 is a must
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and mandates (NR)
