Fundamental design choices are made when a product or solution is developed to become more circular. This includes choices on material and product architecture, the approach to combining components, the definition of business models, and the way products and solutions interact with people and systems along their life cycle.

For ELSE Division you will drive circular design thinking, in line with the European Union’s Eco-design for Sustainable Product Regulation (ESPR), which covers both new and existing products and solutions. An important part of your responsibilities will be related to ensuring coverage of portfolio with Environmental Product Declarations. You will report solid-line to the Division Technology Manager and dotted-line to the Division Sustainability Leader and you will collaborate on a global scale with different functions and units where products are designed and manufactured.

The preferred locations for this position are Italy, Germany, Poland or Czech Republic.

Your responsibilities

• Lead Global R&D Sustainability team in ELSE division, set priorities, track execution and ensure appropriate level of competences and motivation.
• Plan roadmap of products LCAs and EPDs with Product portfolio stakeholders and align with divisions.
• Reference for Gate Model deliverables in the context of sustainability
• Define guidelines, templates and processes with automation tools for LCAs, EPDs, extension rules, lifecycle and ensure alignment with divisions.
• Track, assess, and report on global emerging technology trends and sustainability related regulations and legislation.
• Train primarily R&D and other internal functions on sustainability concepts and ensure that they embed the ABB sustainability targets in their scope of work.
• As Sustainability specialists, contribute in person to creation of LCAs/EPDs and tracking of certification activities.
• Define with R&D teams and corporate research centers solutions and technologies to minimize/eliminate the use of substances hazardous to health and/or environment.

• Master Degree or PhD in Sustainability or Engineering
• Qualified professional with 5-8 years of experience and minimum 3 years hands-on working experience and sound understanding of sustainability technologies and R&D processes, in particular in the context of LCAs and EPDs
• Familiarity with global environmental regulations
• Knowledge of sustainability (ESG) metrics, Environmental part, is a plus
• Structured and result-oriented approach. Strategic thinking
• Strong written and spoken communication skills. Fluency in English is a must
